SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Envivio, the leading technology provider of IP video convergence encoding solutions from mobile to HD, today announced that the new media platform of China’s largest television network, China Central Television (CCTV), has launched its IPTV service pilot in Beijing in time for the start of the Olympic Games using 80 Envivio 4Caster encoders. CCTV is one of the companies licensed to provide IPTV services in China and is the official Internet and Mobile Broadcaster for the 2008 Olympic Games. Envivio is a strategic partner to CCTV.com for the broadcast of the Games.

“This is an exciting year for broadcasting in China as local audience interest in the Olympic games is at an unprecedented level.” said Mr. WANG Wenbin, President of CCTV.com. “We are very pleased to have Envivio as an encoder partner as they have shown strong commitment to the Chinese market with their early implementation of the AVS standard.”

Envivio IPTV encoders are renowned for providing low latency encoding with high video quality, and are ideally suited for sports content such as the Olympics. The 4Caster encoders in use by CCTV.com are currently configured for MPEG-4 AVC encoding, but Envivio’s unique software-based encoding core allows them to be reprogrammed to deliver content in the Chinese AVS encoding format without the need for any hardware modifications.

Envivio will be demonstrating its encoding solution for the Three Screens at IBC 2008 in Amsterdam from September 12-16, 2008 – booth 5.A19.
