New video-centric user interface ideal for deployment on HD platforms

At IBC 2008, Zappware – a Belgian one-stop solution provider for interactive digital TV (iDTV) on multiple TV platforms – will release new versions of their VOD (Video-On-Demand), EPG (Electronic Programme Guide), PVR (Personal Video Recording) and Network PVR interactive services for operators. The new versions share a redesigned graphical user interface which is video-centric and ideally suited for deployment on HD platforms.

The redesigned versions of Zappware’s iDTV services for operators demonstrate Zappware’s creative skills. For an optimal intuitive user experience they consistently use the same navigation pattern throughout all interactive services and they are operated using only the arrow keys and the OK button on the remote control. By consistently putting all interactive graphics in overlay on the video, these new designs allow video to continue to run full-screen while the viewer navigates through the service, resulting in a more video-centric approach of interactive TV. And finally, these designs are created in a HD resolution so that they are compatible with the latest TV platforms on the market.

“These new designs confirm Zappware’s role as a front-runner in creating attractive and ergonomic user interfaces for interactive digital TV services”, says Koen Swings, CTO of Zappware.

The redesigned operator services are part of Zappware’s “iView for Operators”. They complement the existing page-based versions so that operators now have a complete range of user-interface styles to choose from.

Zappware’s redesigned interactive services for operators are launched at IBC (the International Broadcasting Convention), Europe’s largest and most important event for the media content business. At IBC 2008, Zappware will showcase their latest interactive TV services on a variety of digital TV platforms, and will demonstrate the production and management capabilities of their production and management environment “iView Platform”.
