SecureMedia’s Award-Winning Encryptonite ONE™ System Provides Non-Stop Content Protection with Inuk’s igloo Virtual Set Top Box

NATICK, MA USA AND LONDON, UK — SecureMedia, the technology leader in content protection software for secure video and multimedia delivery over IP networks and Inuk Networks, a triple-play service provider and developer of distributed broadcast quality TV and carrier-class telephony over closed IP-based networks today announced integration and standardization of SecureMedia’s Encryptonite ONE™ System CA/DRM (conditional access/digital rights management) software solution with Inuk’s igloo virtual set-top-box software. The combined solution enables worldwide customers to easily and securely extend their STB-based IPTV deployments to the PC or Mac.

igloo enables IPTV platform operators to deliver a true television set-top-box experience (including all features and functions) to either PC or Mac using standards-based, technology-agnostic software. It not only features sophisticated electronic programming guide (EPG) functionality with all on-screen information and controls displayed as a graphical overlay on top of the video image, igloo can be easily customised or branded to incorporate any operator’s desired look and feel. In addition, it enables PVR features using a PC’s existing internal hard disk to securely store content. igloo supports both MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 encoded viewing, in both windowed and full screen modes, and has built in infra-red USB remote control capability. igloo can be used to emulate any standards-based set-top-box on the Windows XP, 2000, NT & Vista operating systems, as well as Intel-based Mac OS X Tiger and Leopard.

The Encryptonite ONE System is an open platform CA/DRM software solution for telcos and broadband operators providing, through its exclusive EverLock™ process, non-stop digital content security of broadcast channels and Video-on-Demand programming.

Together, igloo and the Encryptonite ONE system enable IPTV platform operators to deliver compelling services across multiple devices and to provide a unique multi-room offering via home PCs and Macs. In addition, the combined solution will mean IPTV operators can move beyond their existing closed network infrastructure to offer new content services over the open Internet with the same high standards of security and digital rights management.

Marcus Liassides, CEO at Inuk Networks, said, “The ability to deliver IPTV content securely beyond the STB alone is becoming an increasingly important business driver for telcos and broadband providers. Our close partnership with SecureMedia shows how we are now able to open up the PC and Mac as a new viewing point for IPTV content, protected by the industry’s premier digital security solution that is approved by all Hollywood studios and network broadcasters. We look forward to increased IPTV adoption through PC and Macs, acquiring more subscribers and continuing to pioneer developments internationally throughout 2008 and beyond.”

“IPTV operators everywhere are all looking to extend their existing living room TV solution, complete with the same ‘look and control’ to laptop and desktop PCs around the home,” said Fred Ellis, COO of SecureMedia. “By partnering with Inuk customers can now deploy a leading edge PC-based service without changing their existing IPTV infrastructure while maintaining the same user experience. This opens exciting revenue-generating opportunities for operators and offers their customers more ways to view high quality TV and on demand content throughout the home.”
