TORONTO, Canada — ViXS Systems, the leading developer of video processing System-on-Chips, announced today that it is working with Rebaca Technologies in a technical collaboration to create an advanced Set-Top Box Reference Design that uses the Rebaca Software Stack, showcasing the powerful XCode™ 3290 SoC. In addition to supporting complete DVB and PVR stacks, the Reference Design incorporates advanced features for the connected home, leveraging the chip’s powerful HD transcoding capability to deliver highly interoperable content to advanced devices over wired and wireless networks.

Rebaca is a boutique technology outsourcing company based in India, focused on software development for all aspects of Video and Multi-Media deployment.

The ViXS XCode™ 3290 is designed to give CE manufacturers a compelling solution for HD video products such as STBs, PVRs, Digital TVs, Blu-Ray/HD DVD recorders, Media Servers and Network Attached Storage (NAS). The XCode™ Series of ICs have led the way by being the first — and currently only — single-chip hardware MPEG/AVC encoder/decoder/transcoder/transcryptor SoC with highly integrated connectivity. The XCode™ 3290’s HD transcoding/encoding engines allow manufacturers to build next-generation home video products with increased storage, networking and content protection. Consumers can extend recording up to six times by transcoding HD MPEG-2 to HD MPEG4 AVC streams, with the high quality visual experience expected from HD.

Sally Daub, President and CEO of ViXS said, “The collaboration with Rebaca has helped us add a middleware stack that leverages our HD transcode capability to deliver on our vision of the Set-top box as the Media Hub of the connected home. We believe the user experience should be centered around the family TV and must integrate content aggregation and delivery in an elegant seamless flow.”

“Our engineering team has enjoyed working with ViXS,” added Samir Chatterjee, CEO of Rebaca Technologies. “Creating this unique solution and adding to the feature set with some of the leading players in the industry is a journey we are proud to participate in.”

The complete Reference Design is being showcased at IBC 2008, at ViXS’ booth 5.C12. First customer engagements are in place, with mass production targeted for Q1, 2009. “The consumer space is not only about technology,” said Shawn Saleem, VP Marketing at ViXS. “We also need to focus on creating value for our OEM Partners. The collaboration with Rebaca gives our customers a feature rich product with an optimized BOM, and minimal development cost.”
