World’s Leading Hybrid Silicon Tuner a Featured Component in New PVR Platform Targeting the High-End Consumer Market

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Xceive Corporation, the market leader in multi-standard RF-to-baseband silicon transceivers for the digital television market, PCs, and the digital home, today announced that Realtek Semiconductor Corporation, a leading supplier of networking and multimedia ICs, has selected the XC5000 multi-standard tuner IC for its new high-end Personal Video Recorder (PVR) reference design. This design is expected to significantly accelerate the time to market of networked PVR solutions to DVB markets such as Europe, Taiwan, and others.

Realtek’s RTD1262 reference design leverages the sharp picture quality provided by Xceive’s XC5000 silicon tuner, the world’s most highly integrated hybrid silicon tuner. A featured component in the RTD1262 reference design, the XC5000 enables high performance A/V reception and excellent receiver sensitivity by providing functionality and compatibility unmatched by any other silicon tuner in the market. The XC5000’s sharp analog picture quality and digital HDTV signal reception at resolutions up to 1080i, combined with Realtek’s PVR platform’s premier capabilities, including 3D comb filtering, multi-standard audio decoding, HDMI, and network integration with built-in Ethernet and optional WiFi, ensures an unmatched multimedia experience targeted at the consumer market.

“With its unique combination of features, including high performance, worldwide compatibility, low power, and small size, Xceive’s XC5000 is the ideal solution for Realtek’s PVR reference design,” said Shih-Yu Ku, DMP Product Line Officer for Realtek. “The XC5000 complements Realtek’s Media Processor chip at the heart of this leading-edge PVR design to deliver the unsurpassed features and benefits that consumers have come to expect from tier-one manufacturers.”

Xceive’s XC5000 is the first silicon tuner in the world to provide combined hybrid analog and digital tuning performance that meets the stringent requirements of today’s high-end consumer electronics manufacturers. Manufacturers will appreciate this functionality combined with the production-ready reference design with all schematics, layout, software, and documentation available from Realtek.

“As the requirements of the modern digital living room evolve, consumers continue demanding higher quality and more functionality for the ultimate viewing experience. Manufacturers are in need of a PVR platform that can meet these high expectations,” said Neil Mitchell, vice president of marketing for Xceive. “The combination of Realtek and Xceive technologies brings OEMs the highest quality top-of-the-line solution to meet this emerging market’s demands.”

The XC5000 is fully compliant with worldwide TV specifications such as Nordig v2.0 requirements for DVB-T and A/74 requirements for ATSC digital TV reception. With its unique advanced radio frequency design techniques combined with an on-board proprietary digital signal processor (DSP), the XC5000 delivers analog demodulation and digital bandpass filtering with no external SAW filters to deliver lower BOM cost and a compact, highly integrated system design.

The new, product-ready reference designs from Xceive and Realtek are now available.
