TOKYO — Orion Electric Co., Ltd., AV equipment manufacturer, developed broadband TV powered by Intel’s architecture based CPU jointly with Quixun Co., Ltd. (Tokyo, Japan). Its concept model will be exhibited at CES 2009 to be held from January 8 to 11, 2009 in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the company’s exhibit booth (230 Orion Sales).

The chipset adopted in the concept model is Intel’s architecture used by many UMPCs, etc. Watching analog/digital TV broadcast as well as browsing content-rich websites has been made possible by loading 1GB of memory and 1GB of storage in the main body, adopting the Microsoft® Windows® XP embedded OS, and installing ROBRO, the integrated browser developed by Quixun.

ROBRO is an application designed to intuitively perform all operations solely by remote control, i.e., page scrolling necessary at the time of web browsing, clicking of links, input text, etc. can be performed without keyboard and mouse.

It is also equipped with a function to play video files and music files, and is compatible with file formats including WMV, MPEG and other major media format.

Since a USB port is equipped in the main body, TV programs can be recorded by connecting an external hard disk.

According to Hideyuki Yano, Representative Director of Orion Electric Co., Ltd., “Services on the Internet will further penetrate into people’s lives. I believe that this broadband TV will facilitate the real merger of TV and the Internet, and we will be able to provide the real attraction of the Internet to daily lives.”
