CHESEAUX, Switzerland — Nagravision, a Kudelski Group (SWX:KUD) company and the world’s leading independent provider of value-added content protection solutions and Solaris Mobile, a joint venture of Eutelsat and SES Astra, the leading provider of satellite-based next generation networks for mobile services, announced today they are joining forces in the development of a harmonised ecosystem to optimise the delivery of mobile TV and broadband services. The new solution will be unveiled at Mobile World Congress 2009 to be held in Barcelona on February 16 to 19 in the Solaris booth AV05a and Nagravision hospitality suite, HS02 hall 4, level 4.

Nagravision is the reigning market leader in mobile TV content and service protection with 95% market share securing access of its customers’ subscribers to mobile TV services and is a natural fit for the new ecosystem. Solaris Mobile’s first range of services is aimed primarily at broadcasters, telco operators, the automotive industry, and data & communication providers and will soon be operating in the new dedicated spectrum S-band which is located near the UMTS frequencies exclusively reserved for mobile satellite services. With this S-band payload using the DVB-SH (Satellite services to Handhelds) hybrid satellite/terrestrial standard, Solaris Mobile can provide a unique, powerful network offering seamless coverage across Europe. By using additional terrestrial base stations, the system reaches into tunnels, urban landscapes and also indoor locations. The DVB-SH project fits into their broad range of service offerings.

Jean-Luc Jaquier, Vice President of Nagravision Mobile TV, said, “DVB-SH broadcasting technology offers the capability to reach a wide range of the population with Mobile TV and interactive services. Solaris Mobile has very aggressive plans to launch the service and build the market. It’s an honour to be part of this initiative and we look forward to providing our expertise to the success of the project.”

The Nagra Mobile TV content and service protection platform already provides all the functions needed to protect the broadcasted services and content in DVB-SH. It is available today as an extension to existing Nagravision conditional access systems or as a stand-alone system. The comprehensive Nagravision mobile solution suite fully supports both OMA BCAST Smartcard Profile and Open Security Framework across all industry networks.
