Live demonstration to take place at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona using a Comsys LTE Terminal development platform and Rohde & Schwarz’ CMW500 LTE base-station emulator

HERZLIYA, Israel and MUNICH, Germany — Comsys Communication & Signal Processing Ltd, a leader in multimode baseband processors for mobile devices will be presenting a live demonstration of a full HD video movie streaming in real time over LTE at Comsys Mobile’s booth at the upcoming Mobile World Congress, taking place in Barcelona on 16 – 19 February 2009, together with Rohde & Schwarz, a leading supplier of T&M solutions.

The demonstration system will comprise a Comsys Mobile FPGA based LTE PHY for UE running on Comsys Mobile’s development platform, connected to a R&S CMW500 Wideband Radio Communication Tester configured to 3GPP eUTRAN Release 8, used as an LTE base-station emulator. The video will stream in High Definition format supporting 720p and 1080p full HD running over a LTE CAT4 data channel.

The R&S CMW500 is an LTE wireless device tester with a Layer 1 to Layer 3 protocol stack implementation in accordance with 3GPP eUTRA Release 8 specifications up to category 4, as well as 3GPP-defined LTE scalable channel bandwidths from 1.4MHz to 20MHz. The RF hardware supports all 3GPP frequency bands up to 6GHz.

Comsys Mobile’s ComMAX LT8000 is a full mobile baseband processor implementing 3GPP eUTRA TDD and FDD. The processor will enable multimode operation between 2G, 3G and LTE while providing mobile device manufacturers with a unique solution and significant cost and power advantages.

“Radio access technology such as 3GPP LTE enables excellent Mobile Broadband services and user experience. We are demonstrating our LTE UE running full HD video as an example of the kind of application requiring high data rate and low latency that LTE can provide” commented Avi Sharon, Director LTE Product Marketing, Comsys Mobile. “Working with Rohde & Schwarz products has enabled us to demonstrate our capabilities as well as to achieve interoperability between our UE PHY and R&S CMW500 LTE UE tester. We will be able to give Mobile World Congress visitors an early indication of what will be available from Comsys Mobile to OEM/ODMs in the near future.”

“The Comsys Mobile LTE demonstration is a very important example of the progress of the LTE technology,” said Anton Messmer, Director of the Mobile Radio Testers Subdivision at Rohde & Schwarz. “Our R&S CMW500 enables emulation of a base station for UE testing, with our roadmap to support multimode LTE and other radio access technologies such as GERAN and UTRAN. Both our companies are committed to serving the LTE market and it is a great opportunity to show the capabilities of our LTE solutions.”

Comsys Mobile will be exhibiting at Booth 2B73 in Hall 2 at Mobile World Congress.
