Combined Solution to Deliver Best-in-Class Value and Performance for Service Provider Deployments

SAN DIEGO — Entropic Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq:ENTR), a leading provider of silicon solutions to enable connected home entertainment, and Cavium Networks (Nasdaq:CAVM), a leading provider of semiconductor products that enable intelligent processing for networking, video and wireless applications, announced today a broad-based collaboration to provide best-in-class home networking solutions that utilize high-speed MoCA® home networks.

Synergistic Collaboration

As households continue to increase their consumption of digital entertainment, increasing amounts of data traffic and high-definition video streams are converging on MoCA home networks. Entropic Communications and Cavium Networks have worked together to produce solutions that “future-proof” the entertainment home network of today and tomorrow. By working together, the companies have produced optimized reference designs that deliver service-rich, high-performance solutions at compelling cost points and power levels to address the needs of service providers. Customer premise equipment (CPE) products based on Entropic/Cavium reference designs are ideally suited for fiber-to-the-home Internet and IPTV service deployments.

Next-Generation Broadband Routers — More Bandwidth and Processing Power

A second-generation reference design from Entropic and Cavium combines Entropic’s EN2510 and Cavium’s CN50XX products. Entropic’s EN2510 is the third generation of its award winning c.LINK® MoCA silicon solutions. This system-on-chip (SoC) supports MoCA 1.1, offering up to 175 Mbps throughput, 16 node support, parameterized quality of service (PQoS) and remote network diagnostic capabilities. The Cavium Networks CN50XX is the second generation dual core family of MIPS64 SoC processors with integrated sophisticated hardware acceleration for packet processing, quality of service and network security.

The second generation reference design will be MoCA 1.1 ready and will possess the bandwidth and processing speeds to handle multiple streams of high definition (HD) video in addition to other network traffic such as gaming, music streaming, data and Internet content providing consumers with a seamless home entertainment network.
“Our partnership with Cavium showcases what can be accomplished when two industry leaders work together,” said Patrick Henry, CEO of Entropic Communications. “The result is a product that provides value greater than simply the sum of the individual parts. We look forward to working with Cavium on future product collaborations that will push the performance, features and capabilities of the MoCA home network even further.”

Future Generation Interactive Home Video Networks

Entropic and Cavium are extending their current collaboration to deliver a third generation solution with enhanced new features and capabilities to meet the future needs of their service provider customers. Key additions include the incorporation of Cavium’s PureVu video processing technology that will enable distribution of full HD 1080p60 interactive gaming and video within the home from any video or game source to any display in the home using existing cable wiring over MoCA.

“Cavium Networks is committed to delivering compelling processor solutions for the Digital Home that enable seamless delivery of voice, video and data content from any source device to any display within the home,” said Syed Ali, president and CEO of Cavium Networks. “We will continue to bring innovative solutions to market that incorporate our growing IP portfolio to continuously enhance the performance of solutions for the home while aggressively driving down cost and power. We are pleased to collaborate with Entropic to bring unparalleled performance and value to home entertainment networking applications.”
