VCAS for IPTV to Protect Slovenia’s Largest IPTV Service

LONDON — IPTV World Forum 2009, Stand #160 — Verimatrix, setting the standard in content security technologies that enhance the value of pay-TV networks, today announced Telekom Slovenije as its latest customer to select the Verimatrix Video Content Authority System (VCAS™) for IPTV to protect video-on-demand (VOD) and live broadcast premium content. The operator’s IPTV service, known as SiOL TV with 80,000 subscribers, currently maintains the majority market share in Slovenia according to the Agency for Post and Electronic Communications (APEK).

Telekom Slovenije’s subsidiary, Planet9, is responsible for the creation and support of new platforms for mobile, Web and IPTV media, as well as the production of content. According to Miran Nikolic, technical director, Planet9, “Verimatrix has a strong technical leadership position in IPTV security, and this made VCAS for IPTV a prime candidate for our deployment,” said Miran Nikolic, technical director, Planet9. “But, we also quickly realized the advantages that their partner ecosystem brings — ultimately enabling us to integrate all the components quickly and cost-effectively. Verimatrix is the right security partner to protect our service now and provide a platform for future network enhancements.”

VCAS for IPTV is a software-based, renewable content security solution that can be updated as required to actively combat evolving security threats. VCAS for IPTV will protect SiOL TV’s 120 broadcast channels and library of 800 VOD titles and efficiently scales to keep pace with Telekom Slovenije’s substantial subscriber growth. For the SiOL deployment, VCAS for IPTV will be integrated with Thomson’s SmartVision middleware and Sagem’s set-top-boxes.

“Telekom Slovenije certainly has its pulse on its subscribers’ needs and has responded with compelling content and value-added services secured by VCAS for IPTV,” said Steve Oetegenn, chief sales and marketing officer, Verimatrix. “We look forward to helping one of Europe’s technology leaders provide advanced IPTV services in order to maintain its market share.”

VCAS security has been approved by all major studios for protection of premium content, as well as by all the major broadcasters. The VCAS security architecture has received very favorable results in independent audits and is the approved security choice in pay-TV operator deployments on a worldwide basis. As the global leader in software-based security, VCAS offers flexibility in choice of client devices, broad middleware interoperability and proven scalability.
