ADB delivers the ADB-7820SX HD DVR to YES

GENEVA, Switzerland — Advanced Digital Broadcast (SIX:ADBN), a leading supplier of technology to the global digital television industry, announced today that it will supply Yes with it’s ADB-7820SX advanced high definition digital video recorder. This agreement follows an initial supply of HD set-top boxes when Yes launched its High Definition service in 2007. The delivery of the new digital video recorder will further broaden Yes’ offering in Israel.

“We are delighted to have secured this new agreement with Yes, commented Jim Lomax, Executive Vice President, Worldwide Sales and Marketing, ADB. “ADB has supported Yes in supplying state-of-the-art digital television equipment for over seven years. We believe that these new units will enable Yes to further enhance its digital satellite television business”.

The ADB-7820SX is an advanced high definition digital video recorder incorporating dual tuners, MPEG-2 and H.264/MPEG-4 Advanced Video Coding (AVC). The product enables operators to optimise their broadcast bandwidth through DVB-S2 and AVC, while presenting consumers with the highest quality premium services such as HDTV. The unit includes state-of-the-art hardware features such as a single-chip microprocessor, HDMITM interface and two S/PDIF outputs. As a result of accommodating dual tuners the unit has the ability to simultaneously record two streams and playback a third one located on the hard disk drive. The DVR includes an Ethernet interface enabling advanced services such as a time-shift mode for pausing live TV events as desired. The ADB-7820SX incorporates market-leading NDS VideoGuard® conditional access (CA) technology, and NDS MediaHighway® middleware.

“We are very pleased that YES has chosen NDS Mediahighway for their middleware solution,” commented Raffi Kesten, NDS Chief Operating Officer. “ADB has been a great partner in the integration process, and we are confident that the combination of the ADB-7820SX HD DVR along with Mediahighway will add value to YES’ offering.”

High Speed Data Ports (such as Ethernet and two USB 2.0), enhance the functionality of the ADB-7820SX by allowing for the connection to a wide selection of external devices such as XDSL/Cable modems, hard disk drives, pen drives, and memory card readers. This increases the user’s experience by giving access to digital pictures, video-on-demand and, for example, supporting IP streaming.

“We are very pleased to collaborate once again with ADB and NDS”, commented Itzhak Elyakim, VP Engineering & CTO at Yes. “We believe that this new product will allow us to optimise our digital television operation through features such as advanced video coding, while at the same time enhance our service portfolio by allowing us to access new revenue streams by offering new premium services such as high definition television and digital video recording. We have worked very closely with both ADB and NDS to ensure that we are able to offer our consumers a feature-rich product that enables them to access the very best in digital home entertainment”.

The ADB-7820SX delivers the above features with minimum energy consumption, compliant with the customer’s environmental requirements. ADB has also ensured that the accessories and packaging provided to Yes are built from recyclable materials. This demonstrates that the product is environmentally friendly whilst at the same time lowering consumers’ electricity usage.

The ADB-7820SX is currently being launched on the Yes network.
