CANNES, France — 50 channels including BBC 1, ITV, Sky News, CNN, ESPN and Bloomberg are now available to stream online in real time thanks to a revolutionary new internet service launched at MIP TV in Cannes which experts believe is set to transform the way the public accesses television.

FilmOn.TV is a downloadable media player which requires no set top box and the streamed video which is of broadcast quality has wowed experts within the field with its picture and sound clarity and speed of transfer.

Founded by billionaire entrepreneur Alki David, FilmOn’s groundbreaking HDi technology has been hailed as the future of digital streaming and the listed company’s strong financial position means that for the first time an online TV website is in the position to secure the rights to legally stream content from all the major broadcasters.

In addition to offering HDi access to these established channels, FilmOn’s content aggregator scours the internet to provide over 2,500 TV channels from around the world for free live streaming. As well as this unparalleled pool of content, the site will also feature a selection of FilmOn’s own branded channels. Content will range from Hollywood blockbusters, horror movies and thrillers to sports and adventure channels and FilmOn One, FilmOn Movie, FilmOn Sport and FilmOn Docu are set to provide a serious rival the offerings of the traditional broadcasters.

All this access to content is made possible thanks to groundbreaking new technology which for the first time uses a unique compression codec and grid computing power to deliver broadcast quality video (up to 1080p – the current highest UK broadcast standard) over as little as a 1mb internet connection. This means that for the first time in the UK, live television can be streamed to PCs, internet enabled televisions and even 3G Mobile phones.

The technology is currently being used to stream live content through the HDi Player at FilmOn.tv but as the network grows the technology will be integrated into the existing FilmOn.com infrastructure to offer lightning-fast access to the site’s 13,000 film library. The HDi Technology is available to download for free and is establishing itself as a serious rival to the freeview and subscription services currently on the market as the technology eliminates the need for hardware such as set-top-boxes or satellite dishes.

“Download the free HDi technology from http://www.filmon.tv and prepare to be amazed by its capabilities,” says FilmOn founder Alki David. “The new service is the culmination of years of technological development and challenges the established cable and satellite providers because it’s cheaper and mobile and no set top box is required. FilmOn.TV is what the internet has promised for so long and heralds a new dawn in how the public will access television content.”
