JAKARTA, Indonesia — Irdeto (JSE: NPN), a leading expert in content and business model protection solutions and services, today announced it has been chosen to supply the Conditional Access (CA) and DRM solutions for PT Telkom Group’s mobile subsidiary, Telkomsel, the largest mobile operator in Indonesia with over 65 million subscribers.

PT Telkom is Indonesia’s largest public company and through its Infocoms Telkom Group, it provides fixed wirelines, fixed wireless, cellular, data/Internet and digital TV services to the country whose population is approximately 238 million.

Irdeto is an existing solutions provider to the group’s Digital PayTV subsidiary, Telkomvision, a leading Direct to Home (DTH) operator in Indonesia. This latest deal using Irdeto’s end-to-end convergence platform will enable the PT Telkom group to expand its Digital TV services beyond the traditional TV sets and enable live TV viewing on mobile phones, portable multimedia players and other devices based on the DVB-H Mobile TV architecture.

The trial of the DVB-H platform is expected to start during the second quarter of 2009, with services slated for launch in Jakarta in 2010.

“We are pleased to work with Irdeto and have full confidence in the benefits this partnership will bring to both parties. With the growing opportunities of digital TV converging with Mobile platforms, Irdeto’s proven suite of conditional access solutions for convergence will no doubt enable Telkom Group to gain a strong competitive edge and bring new levels of digital TV offerings to our growing cross platform subscriber base,” says Pak Tanri Abeng, Chairman of Telkom Group.

Adds Pak Rahadi Arsyad, CEO and President Director of Telkomvision: “Telkomvision selected Irdeto for having the best security industry record for protecting pay-TV and MobileTV operators’ business model and revenues, as well as its proven ability to help operators grow subscriber base.”

“The current pay-TV penetration rate is around 1.4% in Indonesia and reflects great potential for subscriber uptake. By expanding TV services across the groups’ mobile platform, the Telkom group can tap into this sector for additional subscription growth. Irdeto’s strategic partnership with the Telkom group will further its market leadership in mobile and help to grow the pay-TV market and strengthen its reputation for being a forward-looking and innovative operator,” noted Graham Kill, CEO of Irdeto.
