Magyar Telekom Sat TV reaches 47k subs; IPTV at 60k
Thursday, May 7th, 2009BUDAPEST — Magyar Telekom (NYSE: MTA)(Budapest: MTELEKOM) today reported its consolidated financial results for the first quarter of 2009, in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
TV revenues amounted to HUF 5.4 bn in the first quarter of 2009 as compared to HUF 4.7 bn in the same period of 2008. The increase is mainly due to the growth in IPTV revenues as the IPTV subscriber base has been increasing both in Hungary and at our foreign subsidiaries. In Hungary, the satellite TV service (T-Home Sat TV) introduced in November 2008 also contributed to the increase in TV revenues and the number of satellite TV customers reached 47,144 at March 31, 2009. Lower ARPU together with flat subscriber base resulted in slightly lower Cable TV revenues in the first three month of 2009 as compared to the same period in 2008.
The number of IPTV customers increased by more than 190% by March 31, 2009 compared to a year earlier.
