TELUS launches satellite TV for Western Canada
Monday, June 29th, 2009CALGARY, Alberta — As of today, TELUS (TSX: T, T.A; NYSE: TU) Satellite TV is available across Alberta and British Columbia (B.C.). TELUS Satellite TV is available to more than 90 per cent of homes in Alberta and B.C and residents can now add it to their suite of services from TELUS. Bundling TELUS TV with Internet, home phone or long distance services helps consumers simplify their lives — and save money at the same time.
TELUS Satellite TV adds to TELUS’ growing entertainment portfolio that includes an innovative and differentiated digital television service provided over TELUS’ wireline broadband network, TELUS mobile TV on wireless phones, TELUS mobile radio, and TELUS mobile music.
“Satellite TV is a natural addition to the range of great services we already offer our customers, enabling TELUS to offer one-stop-shopping for home phone, Internet, wireless and entertainment services to the vast majority of our clients in Alberta and B.C.,” said Joe Natale, president of TELUS Consumer Solutions. “TELUS Satellite TV expands the range of TV services we offer in urban areas while allowing us to immediately extend our TV service coverage into most rural areas.”
TELUS Satellite TV is an all digital service which includes features such as onscreen Call Display and more than 500 digital channels including over 80 in HD. Much like they can with TELUS’ existing all digital TV service, TELUS Satellite TV clients can customize their TV experience with theme packs for added flexibility (e.g. news, sports, family), international channels, premium sports packages, and premium movie packages that include the latest blockbuster films.
TELUS TV offers savings to clients who bundle with home phone or Internet services. By introducing satellite TV to our current suite of services, TELUS is now able to deliver these bundled savings to more than 90 per cent of households across Alberta and B.C.
This new satellite service complements the successful rollout of TELUS TV which, to date, has more than 100,000 subscribers and is already commercially available in select communities in Alberta, B.C. and eastern Quebec including Vancouver and the Lower Mainland, Whistler, Vernon, Kelowna, Edmonton, Calgary, Fort McMurray, Grande Prairie and Rimouski.
