NHK to demonstrate 8K (Super Hi-Vision) at NAB 2014
Mar 17, 2014 – NHK has announced that it will display its range of 8K (Super Hi-Vision) technologies at NAB2014. The system offers 33 million pixels per frame, 4 times more resolution than 4K TV, as well as 22.2 multichannel surround sound.

Subjective testing confirms importance of frame rate for UHDTV

NHK and Mitsubishi Develop World's First HEVC Encoder for 8K Super Hi-Vision
May 9, 2013 – NHK and Mitsubishi have jointly developed the world's first HEVC encoder for 8K ultra HDTV 'Super Hi-Vision' (SHV). The HEVC encoder will be displayed at the NHK Science & Technology Research Laboratories Open House 2013, which will take place from May 30th to June 2nd.

ITU gives first-stage approval to H.265 video coding standard
