T-Com Slovakia launches Magio DTH

Slovak Telekom (T-Com) has officially introduced satellite television Magio. Media representatives were able to witness live experience of next generation digital TV, which is newly broadcasted also via satellite transmission. More than 7000 customers’ pre-registrations received by T-Com during a month, confirm big public’s interest in the new service.
T-Com is the first Slovak multimedia operator which will provide interactive digital television on the fixed platform (both metallic and optic networks) as well as via the latest satellite technology DVB-S2. The official launch of Magio Sat sale is scheduled for first quarter of 2010, preceded by consistent testing process. Up to now, T-Com received more than 7000 customers’ pre-registrations. Magio Sat project is prepared in close cooperation with Magyar Telekom which is securing technological part of platform (headend) and demonstrates excellent example of synergy within Deutsche Telekom Group (Frankfurt: DTE)(NYSE:DT).
Satellite television Magio will offer all functionalities known from IPTV Magio service, including program recording, pausing, rewinding, electronic program guide and internet Magio portal. The only exception comes with Video on Demand service, which will not be available within the date of commercial launch. Magio Sat service installation will be available in two different ways – by technician and self-installation package. T-Com’s satellite set will consist of parabolic dish with 80 cm diameter, Magio Box with / without hard disk, decoding Smart card, interconnecting cables and handy compass for proper satellite dish direction (available in self-installation package).
As Senior Executive Vice-President for Sales, Marketing and Technologies Ruediger J. Schulz said: „At the beginning of next year will our customers be able to choose from three ways of Magio TV connection; including satellite transmission, which solves all problems with the infrastructure in remote locations and delivers 100% digital television coverage of Slovakia. Thanks to innovative technology, we can satisfy a much larger number of customers with our services. The right decision of our investment is confirmed by the strong public interest in registration on Magio Sat. We are currently in pilot phase, during which we are testing the whole process of setting up the service for the first 1 000 customers. During thorough testing, our priority is to ensure excellent quality to which are Magio customers accustomed to.”
