The Largest Satellite TV Provider in Northern Europe to Deploy TiVo’s Software and User Interface Across Scandinavia

OSLO, NORWAY and ALVISO, CA — Telenor’s Canal Digital, a leader in TV distribution in Scandinavia and a pioneering provider of innovative TV, broadband and telephony services, and TiVo Inc. (NASDAQ: TIVO), a leader in hybrid TV software solutions and advanced television services for personal video recorders (PVRs), today announced the start of a long-term strategic alliance which will see TiVo products introduced and distributed as the premier consumer experience for Canal Digital Direct-to-Home (DTH) satellite customers in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland.

For Canal Digital, the alliance becomes one of the key pillars in its strategy to continue offering the most advanced and enjoyable television experience to viewers across Scandinavia. The TiVo product will be available exclusively through Canal Digital where it will serve as Canal Digital’s next generation platform, seamlessly integrating linear satellite and terrestrial TV channels, Canal Digital’s video-on-demand service, and a variety of current and future “OTT” services. TiVo’s intuitive, high definition user experience has been identified by several operators in Europe as the most compelling solution for translating an increasingly complex world of content options into a fun and elegant experience for the consumer.

Christian Albech, CEO of Telenor Broadcast Holding AS, said: “The Scandinavian pay TV market is one of the most competitive in the world, which means that Canal Digital must continue to offer the market’s best content and user experience. After considering many partners who could help us deliver this promise, we concluded that TiVo was head and shoulders above the rest. TiVo remains the gold standard for television user interface and offers an unmatched level of ongoing innovation for the consumer and the operator.”

The relationship marks significant milestones in the evolution and growth of both companies. Apart from expanding into a thriving television market, this represents a highly strategic satellite platform with TiVo software and Canal Digital’s first “networked” box that provides a variety of ground-breaking capabilities like universal search, home networking, and integration with mobile devices.

By partnering with TiVo, Canal Digital gets access to the most feature-rich and consumer friendly television software, while avoiding significant in-house development costs and the complexity of piecemeal alternatives.

Tom Rogers, President and CEO of TiVo Inc., noted: “As we continue to execute on TiVo’s international growth strategy, we are extremely proud to align with Canal Digital, the leading DTH company in Scandinavia. Canal Digital is renowned for successfully pioneering the introduction of new TV technology to consumers in Scandinavia, including digital broadcasts, HDTV, PVR and most recently, hybrid VoD. We believe that the presentation of these assets through the TiVo user experience will create the most compelling video service in Scandinavia, bar none. As a result, we are very enthusiastic about the significant commitment Canal Digital is making to TiVo and are excited to see the TiVo interface proliferate across Canal Digital’s DTH subscriber base.”

Canal Digital and TiVo will be working with Conax for conditional access solutions as the companies implement and launch an integrated product. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
