Toshiba adopts MStar HbbTV solution

MStar Semiconductor Inc., a leading semiconductor company for display and digital home solutions, today announced their solution was being adopted by Toshiba in their new TL & RL TV series which are currently being released across Europe. Toshiba is a leading company in consumer electronics with an excellent brand reputation.

With MStar’s solution and support, the TL & RL series will enable the user to merge broadcast TV network and broadband contents through HbbTV technology. Additionally the sets also incorporate MStar’s Motion Compensation technology together with “Toshiba Places”, a Toshiba designed portal to deliver consumers outstanding user experience on video on demand (VoD) and internet services. Selected sets also incorporate MStar’s DVB-T2 demodulator.

Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV, or “HbbTV”, is a major new pan-European initiative aimed at harmonizing the broadcast and broadband delivery of entertainment to the end consumers through connected TVs and set-top boxes.

Through the adoption of HbbTV, consumers will be able to access new services from entertainment providers such as broadcasters, online providers and CE manufactures – including catch-up TV, VoD, interactive advertising, personalisation, voting, games and social networking as well as programme-related services such as digital text and EPGs.
