ADB launches ClariTV™ - A suite of new picture enhancement technologies developed to ensure that consumers receive the best quality pictures and optimise their investments in HD Ready TV sets

SEPTEMBER 8, 2006 – Advanced Digital Broadcast, a leading supplier of technology to the global digital television industry, announced today the launch of its new picture enhancement initiative ClariTV™. ClariTV™ technology has been designed to ensure that consumers get the optimum quality from standard definition (SD) transmissions when viewed on HD Ready televisions and will be available on ADB’s High Definition (HD) digital set-top boxes (STBs).

Mark Goodburn, Director of Marketing at ADB, commented, ‘We noticed that consumers have already invested greatly in HD Ready televisions. Most of these sets are used to display standard definition pictures today, satellite operators have only just started to offer high definition services and, though conducting some very successful trials, terrestrial operators are not yet ready to deploy high definition services. Despite the fact that high definition set-top box technology is available today, many consumers will have to wait for better quality pictures as production facilities and transmission infrastructures are upgraded for high definition’.

ClariTV™ incorporates a number of new technologies designed to enable consumers to receive HD resolution pictures from SD transmissions when using HD Ready television sets. ClariTV™ uses the unique combination of an advanced microprocessor and state-of-the-art software, developed by ADB, to clean the image and upscale it to HD resolution. ClariTV™ enhanced SD TV pictures are of the highest quality, ensuring that consumers get the best from their HD Ready TV technology today.

‘Why should consumers wait to get the best from their technology investments?’ asked Philippe Lambinet, CEO of Advanced Digital Broadcast. ‘We felt that the technology was available to greatly improve the picture quality of standard definition reception. Naturally, ADB remains fully committed to developing HD set-top boxes, however, it will be some time before a complete transition is made to high definition content. We also want to ensure that consumers receive a complete and immediate benefit from their technology purchases’.

ADB plans to offer ClariTV™ technology as a value-added feature on all of its advanced HD enabled STBs fitted with HDMI™, whilst launching dedicated, ClariTV™ based products for the retail market.
