Comprehensive OCAP Solution for HDTV and STB, Integrated Solution Reduces Time to Market

NOVEMBER 7, 2006 - VividLogic Inc. today announced that Funai Electric Co., Ltd. (Funai), a leader in HDTV technology, has selected VividLogic’s Open Cable Application Platform (OCAP) 1.0 and Platform Foundation Class (PFC) Architecture for their next generation OCAP Set Top Box.

Funai is a world leader in audio-visual and communication technologies being able to create innovative products in the area of digital home appliances. After careful consideration of competing vendor solutions, Funai has selected VividLogic based on its comprehensive solution, experience with different HD Decoder IC platforms and the flexibility of their OCAP and PFC framework.

In a recent announcement Funai has announced that it has signed the two-way agreement called the CableCARD™ Host Interface Licensing Agreement (CHILA). CHILA allows Funai to implement the OpenCable™ host specifications that enable the development and marketing of two-way interactive digital products that run the OpenCable™ Application Platform (OCAP™) middleware.

VividLogic OCAP software and PFC framework provide (a) easy “plug in” of various hardware modules (multiple tuners of different types, Decoder ICs, etc.), (b) support for DOCSIS™ Signaling Gateway (DSG), Multi-Card (MCARD), IEEE-1394 and OCAP Extensions (DVR, etc.). The middleware can be configured as a stand alone OCAP Cable STB or can be integrated with legacy ATSC software in HDTV and share resources such as Video Planes and Tuners between native ATSC applications and downloaded OCAP applications.
