Yelo TV: a brand-new television experience

MECHELEN — Today, Telenet presented “Yelo TV” in a sneak preview. With Yelo TV, Telenet unites digital TV with the Yelo application. The customer can then watch his favourite content on any screen in the house using a single service. His TV recordings can be made available on the device of his choice. Moreover, he can watch photos and videos, or play music from his laptop (PC), smartphone or tablet on the large TV screen. The new intuitive Yelo TV interface offers the same look and feel on all screens. With Yelo TV, television is tuned even better to the customer. Telenet will launch Yelo TV on the market early in 2013.

Even more user-friendly thanks to an innovative TV menu

Yelo TV has a completely new, innovative TV menu, in which images take centre stage. The menu is dynamic and intuitive, and thereby provides easy access to all the benefits of Yelo TV. When flicking through the channels, the current channel remains in the background, thereby ensuring that the current television experience is not interrupted. The covers of the various films and series are also shown prominently in the TV library to ensure that the viewer has a clear overview of what is on offer. To help the viewer find his way through the wide supply of films, series and programmes, functions such as “suggestions” and “search” are receiving more attention. The new interface will also appear on the Yelo TV app.

Yelo TV based on Horizon user interface

This interface is based on Horizon, the new TV platform of Liberty Global Inc (NASDAQ: LBTYA, LBTYB, LBTYK). The concept and the intellectual rights were granted by NDS Group and LGI. The platform was then further developed and integrated together with Flemish technology partners. The convergence between Horizon and our local technology makes it possible for more than half our customers to download this new TV menu on their existing decoder.

Watch your favourite programmes on any screen

One of the key innovations is the technological ability of transferring the complete television experience seamlessly onto everyone’s PC, laptop, smartphone or tablet. Yelo TV not only makes it technologically possible to enjoy live TV wherever you are in the house, but to now also watch recordings on all your screens. Conversely, the customer can also look at photos and videos, or play music from his PC, smartphone or tablet via his TV screen. What’s more, the customer can program or delete his recordings remotely.

Inge Smidts, Senior Vice President Residential Marketing: “Telenet focuses on three elements when it comes to watching television: watch what you want, when you want and where you want, and be always assured of the best quality and the greatest user-friendliness. The Yelo application that we launched in 2010 was already a first step. With Yelo TV, Telenet is taking the next step, and we are creating an entirely new user experience. This is a new way of watching TV that responds to the customer’s need to watch his favourite content on any screen he wants. Watching television no longer stops at the TV set. Thanks to the latest technology, it is possible to connect different devices with each other and have the viewing experience flow seamlessly from one to the other, when and where the customer wants. Yelo TV ensures the same look and feel on all screens that the customer has, and creates an optimum television experience, with more interactivity and freedom.”

Yelo TV will be launched early in 2013. Both existing and new customers will have access to this new product.

This sneak preview therefore marks the start of an evolution process that we plan to continue together with our customers and broadcasters in order to make the product as innovative as possible, and to offer the customer a superior viewing experience.
