Gefen and Pulse~LINK Introduce the World's First Consumer HDMI Over Coax Product for High Definition Video Connectivity Throughout the Home

Friday, January 4th, 2008

LAS VEGAS — Gefen, a leader in innovative audio/video solutions and Pulse~LINK, the UWB semiconductor performance leader, today introduced the world’s first consumer electronics product that incorporates Pulse~LINK’s CWave® UWB HDMI-Over-Coax technology. For the first time, consumers will be able to extend the reach of HDMI from room to room over their existing in-home coax cabling. Gefen and Pulse~LINK will demonstrate the HDMI-Over-Coax technology at the 2008 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) at the Las Vegas Convention Center, January 7-10. Demonstrations will take place at the Gefen booth (South Hall 1, #20344) and the Pulse~LINK booth (South Hall 2, #25559).

“With the Gefen HDMI Over Coax Extender, which implements Pulse~LINK’s HDMI-Over-Coax technology, consumers can extend the reach of HDMI audio and video out of their family room or media room into any other room in their house,” explained Hagai Gefen, president and CEO, Gefen Inc. “They can enjoy true HD entertainment that is visually lossless, regardless of where their content source is located. We are pleased to partner with Pulse~LINK on the first commercial implementation of HDMI-Over-Coax in order to offer our customers the very best in whole-home HD entertainment networking.”

The Gefen HDMI Over Coax Extender provides an infrared back channel that enables consumers to use the same remote that controls their set-top box, DVR, Blu-ray or HD DVD player, in all rooms throughout the connected home. The no-new-wires solution offers Gigabit data rates and is capable of simultaneous delivery of high quality, visually lossless video along with multi-channel digital audio. It combines the simplicity that consumers want with the guaranteed Quality of Service they demand for a true ‘Digital Home Cinema’ experience.

“Imagine only needing to buy one Blu-ray or HD DVD player or rent one HD set-top-box for your home and being able to play your HD content on any HDTV in any room of your home – regardless of where the player is located,” states Dan Friedman, Pulse~LINK VP Marketing. “We’re excited about the tremendous opportunities for distributing high-bandwidth HD content anywhere in the home with our award-winning HDMI-Over-Coax solution, and are proud to partner with Gefen to bring HDMI-Over-Coax products to market.”

The Gefen HDMI Over Coax Extender is planned for release in April 2008 and will be available to consumers online at www.gefen.com or through an authorized Gefen reseller.

HDMI has long been recognized for its high quality transport and content protection mechanisms but was limited to single room fixed point-to-point applications. Pulse~LINK’s CWave® UWB HDMI-Over-Coax innovation extends this reach over existing coax cabling, including splitters, allowing consumers to access high-bandwidth HD content from entertainment source devices in one room and display it in any other room in the house.

Pulse~LINK is the only semiconductor company to deliver production silicon with Gigabit data rates for both wired and wireless HD video distribution. A long time recognized innovator of UWB technology, Pulse~LINK was the first company to demonstrate Wireless HDMI in 2005 and continues to set the performance bar for high data rate wireless connectivity. Pulse~LINK also invented the use of Ultra Wideband over coax systems and was the first to patent and demonstrate this revolutionizing technology for streaming HD content throughout the home. The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA®) recognized CWave® UWB HDMI-Over-Coax with the International CES Innovations 2008 Design and Engineering Award.
