Working Group to Develop Measurement of Energy Consumption Standard

ARLINGTON, Virginia — The Consumer Electronics Association’s (CEA)® Video Systems Committee today announced the reactivation of the Set-Top Box Energy Consumption working group, R4 WG13. The working group will help to develop standards to measure energy consumption in televisions and other related video technologies and devices.

“This working group has established itself as a leader in energy measurement standards for set-top boxes and will now expand into stand-alone DVRs,” said Brian Markwalter, CEA vice president of Technology and Standards. “In addition, the group will incorporate updates to its suite of standards originally published in 2006 and clarify the procedures for measuring energy usage in televisions. It is critical that CE standards keep up with the latest technology trends and developments in energy efficiency.”

This working group created CEA-2013, Digital STB Background Power Consumption and CEA-2022, Digital STB Active Power Consumption Measurement. CEA and its members are committed to increasing awareness of environmentally-friendly products, programs, standards and practices within the consumer electronics industry.

Participation in CEA standards activities is open to companies and organizations with direct and material interest. CEA membership is not required to participate. To learn more about the Video Systems Committee and its working groups, please contact Alayne Bell at abell@CE.org.
