DTT to begin in Cyprus in 2010
Monday, December 7th, 2009Cyprus’s Ministry of Communications and Works and Ministry of Interior have announced the auction of the second digital terrestrial television broadcasting licence for the country.
The government decided in July 2008 to proceed with licensing of two platforms for digital television. One license is to be given to the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation (CyBC, ΡΊΚ) for public service broadcasting, with the second being sold by auction to a private operator.
Applications for the second platform have to be in by January 29, 2010 with the auction beginning on April 30. Digital broadcasting is expected to begin in May 2010. The date for termination of all analogue transmissions is July 2011.
The technical standard for transmission is to be MPEG-4.
