Thomson Empowers Telecom Operators To Provide Never-Before Services and Features to Consumer and Business Customers

BERLIN and PARIS — Broadband World Forum — At the Broadband World Forum, Thomson (Euronext 18453; NYSE: TMS) will launch new broadband gateways that will allow telecom operators to provide more diverse and faster services to both their consumer and business customers.

To enable telecom operators to serve their consumer customers with the best possible broadband experience, Thomson will unveil two unique gateway product lines: the MediaCenterGateway and the TG797n.

For telecom operators wanting to deliver service to their business customers, Thomson will introduce another new gateway, the TG628s, the first product in a new range of advanced broadband gateways for business DSL deployments.

“These advanced broadband gateway offerings from Thomson now allow telecom operators to deliver on the promise of broadband efficiencies and entertainment possibilities to both the consumer and business,” said Bruno Fabre, Vice President, Premises Systems at Thomson. “Each of these gateways, that we are showing for the first time at the Broadband World Forum, is not only easy for operators to deploy and manage, but simple for endusers to operate.”

Thomson for Telecom Consumer Customers: 2 new gateways

The first home media hub integrated in a DSL gateway to enter the market, Thomson’s MediaCenterGateway will support the delivery of advanced voice and video services and enable telecom operators to offer their customers a complete entertainment and communications hub for the home.

This home entertainment center provides broadband access and VoIP services supporting up to fifteen dedicated telephone numbers and up to five wireless phones simultaneously. The MediaCenterGateway’s multimedia applications enable the sharing of content to and from the integrated hard disk or PC to all WiFi and Ethernet connected devices, such as televisions, DECT handsets, PCs, or even an MP3 player. The portable Thomson WiFi Tablet is designed to deliver IPTV services throughout the home.

The TG797n is capable of supporting the wireless streaming of high-definition video throughout the home, while enabling telecom operators to deliver the next generation of entertainment and Internet services to their customers. It can be associated with up to fifteen dedicated telephone numbers via voice over IP, and up to five wireless phones simultaneously. The TG797n also enables new services such as simplified access to useful information and Internet music.

Thomson for Telecom Business Customers

The TG628s is a gateway which allows operators to offer a full 10 Mbps two-way Ethernet service over the copper wiring that dominates the last-mile of telecom networks across Europe. The new range of gateways will enable operators to cost-effectively deliver a comprehensive range of cutting-edge managed services. The TG628s offers telecoms an alternative to deploying fibre connections to businesses for high-bandwidth services.

With over 40 million broadband modems and gateways deployed worldwide, Thomson confirms its key-role on this rapidly growing market.
