Thursday, November 22nd, 2012

Today’s scheduled launch of the SupremeSAT-1 communications satellite from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center (XSLC) in China has been delayed by five days due to poor weather conditions. The Sri Lankan satellite is intended for direct-to-home (DTH) broadcast television services.

The satellite, a joint venture between SupremeSAT (Pvt) Ltd. and China’s state-owned China Great Wall Industry Corporation (CGWIC), is the first of a series to be launched by the partnership. The second and third are planned for launch in June 2013 and December 2015.

The satellite is to be positioned at 87.5°E.
