- A best-in-class tablet SoC for the Super-mid market
HSINCHU, Taiwan — MediaTek today announced the MT8127, a performance-leading quad-core tablet System on Chip (SoC) that offers full hardware support for the new HEVC (H.265) video playback standard. Optimized and highly integrated support for H.265 video playback allows videos to play with an average of up to 50 percent less video bandwidth compared to the previous H.264 standard.
MediaTek’s MT8127 is the best in-class tablet SoC for the Super-mid market thanks to its advanced multimedia features, outstanding performance, low power consumption and its affordable price point. By integrating support for MediaTek’s leading connectivity solutions including Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, FM receiver and GPS, the SoC allows manufacturers to enjoy shorter time-to-market and reduces the printed circuit board (PCB) area and related costs.
Powered by an ARM Cortex-A7 quad-core processor, with a clock rate of 1.5GHz, and a quad-core ARM Mali-450 MP4 GPU, MediaTek’s MT8127 delivers world-class features, including low-power, Full HD 1080p video playback and recording, and a 13MP camera. A Full HD 1920×1200 LCD screen display combined with MediaTek MiraVision™ provides excellent image quality similar to that of a Digital TV. The SoC also supports Wi-Fi certified Miracast™ and NFC which makes content sharing between devices remarkably easy.
“The MT8127 demonstrates MediaTek’s continuous commitment to improving technologies that consequently elevate the end-user experience,” said Joe Chen, General Manager of MediaTek’s Home Entertainment Business unit.
“As the Super-mid market continues to grow, the demand for high-performing yet affordable multimedia features increases exponentially, which is why our quad-core tablet SoC with HEVC video playback is so impactful in the mid-range tablet market. We believe that the MT8127, with its highly integrated system, rich multimedia capabilities and optimal cost-performance ratio, is the best offer in the mid-range tablet market today. It is another example of our dedication to providing high-end technology to the mainstream market,” said Joe Chen.
“We are thrilled to launch PIXI 7 tablet. Combining ALCATEL ONETOUCH’s distinct design flare and visually immersive features with the power and efficiency of MediaTek’s MT8127 series chipset, means we are able to deliver a leading mid-range tablet experience for customers around the world,” said Vittorio Di Mauro, Vice President and Smart Connectivity Business Unit Director for ALCATEL ONETOUCH.
MediaTek’s MT8127 SoC will power ALCATEL ONETOUCH’s PIXI 8 tablet, which will be launched later this year.
