Irdeto’s Media Protection and Revenue Assurance enabled Forthnet to transition to a fully-secured DTH base
AMSTERDAM — Irdeto, the world leader in Multiscreen, Media Protection and Revenue Assurance solutions, and Nova, the satellite pay TV platform of Forthnet, a leader in the pay TV market in Greece and Cyprus, today announced they have worked together on the transition to a fully-secured direct-to-home (DTH) base.
Forthnet recently upgraded its headend system to MPEG-4 and its modulation scheme to DVBS2. In parallel, Forthnet swapped all legacy set-top boxes (STBs) with new ones which were capable of supporting DVBS2 and HD MPEG-4. For this project, Forthnet relied on Irdeto Media Protection to secure its DTH offering, and on Irdeto’s Revenue Assurance services to protect its future revenue and expansion plans. As a result of this proactive step to protect its offering, all control word distribution piracy has stopped and Forthnet now has a 100% secure base for its premium content.
“In recent years we have seen a surge in popularity of pay TV in Greece and it is our imperative to offer the best entertainment solutions to our current and future customers,” said Constantinos Moraitis, Technical Director at Forthnet Media Holdings. “Our collaborative team work with Irdeto demonstrates that the right anti-piracy strategy can create a successful new revenue-generating business model.”
Irdeto’s Secure Chipset Solution is now implemented across Forthnet`s new Hybrid Platform, which supports a variety of satellite- and internet-based services to STBs in the region. The solution prevents control word redistribution and device software tampering. With this in place, Forthnet is primed to offer its high-value services securely and to put its customers’ needs first by investing more in content and marketing. To protect revenue generated by high-value content and services, Irdeto’s Security Lifecycle Services provides proactive, flexible and responsive protection against evolving threats. Irdeto enables Forthnet to manage risks at a predictable cost with a bundled service package that includes site security certification, ongoing threat monitoring, security updates and client protection.
“By taking this decisive action to protect revenues and customers both now and in future, Forthnet is now at the forefront of the region’s pay TV market and is poised to continue to increase its market share as it develops its offering,” said Richard Scott, SVP of Sales and Marketing Irdeto.
Constantinos Moraitis finished: “We have been partnering with Irdeto for a number of years – they understand the needs of our business and through a close working relationship they have been able to provide a service which suitably maps to our company. Irdeto is the trusted security partner for Forthnet`s continued development as the company expands into new technologies and markets.”
Irdeto`s Secure Chipset Solution is a core element of Irdeto Media Protection, a suite of Conditional Access solutions, which provides pay-TV operators the most stringent content security, allowing them to focus on a smooth end-user experience while providing premium content. Irdeto’s Security Lifecycle Services, a key part of Irdeto Revenue Assurance, provides complete, ongoing protection against piracy threats for operators’ deployments, content and revenue.
