LONDON — PeerTV, the TV over the internet (OTT) technology solutions provider, has announced that following the successful delivery of the first batch of its eTV set top box order to Polsky.TV, the company has now added an additional order totalling $490,000.
PeerTV will supply Polsky.TV with its next generation Android set top box which uses H265 HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding) technology to deliver TV over the internet. PeerTV successfully demonstrated its new set top box at IBC in Amsterdam in September, showing how content can be streamed using 50% of the bandwidth previously required for H264 technology. Very high quality picture and sound transmission are standout features of the PeerTV unit.
Prior to delivery, PeerTV will develop remote management for the STB.
Operating in several countries, Polsky.TV is an example of a new breed of ethnic TV service providers which have spotted significant opportunities for monetizing the TV viewing habits of expatriate communities around the world by using the internet to reach an audience known to be hungry for on demand ethnic TV content. It recently launched in the UK, targeting an estimated market of over 600,000 Polish speakers. Its UK broadcasting network offers over 30 channels, including Polish public television channels, entertainment channels and popular music, as well as children’s channels, sports amongst others.
