MTN Nigeria buys DTT broadcasting licence

ABUJA — According to a press briefing by Nigeria’s National Broadcasting Commission, South Africa’s MTN has bought a licence to provide pay TV in the country for 34 billion Naira (~$170m). MTN Nigeria will use part of the 700MHz frequency band to provide digital broadcasting services.
The Commission also said that production and delivery of imported set-top boxes for its digital switchover pilot project is to be completed by the end of October, with local manufacturing to begin in April 2016.
