ZHUHAI, China — Actions Semiconductor Co., Ltd. (Nasdaq: ACTS) (“Actions Semiconductor” or “the Company”), one of China’s leading fabless semiconductor companies that provides comprehensive portable multimedia and mobile internet system-on-a-chip (SoC) solutions for portable consumer electronics, today announced the launch of the GT7 chipset featuring 4K H.265 decoding, quad-core 64-bit CPU and quad-core GPU targeting the global over-the-top (“OTT”) set-top box market.
The GT7 is a new generation, ultra-high performance solution featuring a quad-core ARM® CortexTM A53 CPU and a high performance ARM quad-core Mali-450 GPU. The GT7 supports up to 4K Ultra HD decoding for the latest international standard – HEVC/H.265 video decoding and up to 1080P full HD decoding for nearly all video standards and formats. It also supports Gigabit ethernet connectivity and USB3.0. In addition to these advanced features, the GT7 employs 28nm process technology with Actions’ Low Power Design Generation V technology, providing the most powerful, feature rich and low power product for OTT set-top box customers. The chipset supports both Android OS and the most prevalent OS in China’s OTT market, Alibaba’s YunOS for TV.
“The home video entertainment industry has been undergoing dramatic change, with the market migrating from traditional DVD players and broadcast-based set-top boxes to Internet-based OTT set-top boxes, which are typically smarter, more interactive and provide cloud services beyond video. The industry is also experiencing an upgrade from full HD to ultra HD,” said Dr. Zhenyu Zhou, CEO of Actions Semiconductor. “The transition to 64-bit technology for mobile and cloud connected devices is accelerating rapidly, and we believe it will become the industry standard for OTT set-top boxes in 2016. Leveraging our flagship 64-bit SoC launched at the International CES earlier this year, the ATM9009, we expect our newest 28nm 4K 64-bit chipset to be well received by the fast growing global OTT set-top box market.”
The GT7 will be available for sample at the end of 2015.
