Moldova's first DTH operator broadcasts from 1 degree west
Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008OSLO — Telenor Satellite Broadcasting (TSBc) today announced that is has signed a contract with Focus-Sat SRL to supply capacity and services for Moldova’s first DTH operator. Focus-Sat SRL commenced transmission on the 21st of April 2008 from 1 degree west, one of Europe’s prime orbital locations.
Mr Leiv Svenning, Head of Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) of Telenor Satellite Broadcasting, welcomed the arrival, “We are delighted to be able to provide Focus-Sat SRL, with a complete DTH broadcasting solution for channel distribution in Moldova. With over 2 million households already tuning into 1 degree west in the CEE region, this contract signifies the growing strength of its position, which continues to show increased value for DTH distribution.”
Telenor Satellite Broadcasting is providing an end to end broadcasting service, which includes the transfer of content via TSBc’s terrestrial video fibre network (MSNW) to Sofia, Bulgaria. The content will then be uplinked through Telenor’s Bulgarian teleport and distributed, utlising Thor III satellite capacity, positioned at 1 degree west.
Focus-Sat SRL started broadcasting an initial 7 channels which consists of a mixture of local Moldavian and Russian content. The number of channels is expected to increase in the forthcoming months.
