- Showcases full suite of colour filters for broadcast industry at IBC 2017
CAMBRIDGE, UK and AMSTERDAM, Netherlands — Spectral Edge today released Vividteq, a unique colour filter technology that dynamically improves image quality and enables service providers to deliver HDR-like experiences to their premium subscribers, with no need to replace or update customer equipment.
While High Dynamic Range (HDR) technology promises more vivid pictures with greater colour depth, most existing TVs and set top boxes simply don’t support it, holding back adoption by pay-TV and OTTtv service providers.
- HDR-like viewing experiences on legacy TVs
- Dynamically improves image quality in real-time
- Sharper, crisper images with greater colour contrast and ranges
- Processes live TV or VoD in real-time, frame-by-frame
- Available as licenced IP for use in a broadcast head-end or CDN
Vividteq overcomes this challenge. Deployed within the broadcast head-end or Content Delivery Network (CDN), it extracts and enhances live TV or VoD in real-time on a frame by frame basis using Spectral Edge’s unique Phusion image processing technology to produce an enhanced feed, suitable for broadcast via terrestrial, cable, satellite or IPTV channels. This delivers sharper, crisper images with greater colour contrast and ranges, providing subscribers with a premium HDR-like service, dynamically adapting to different TV genres, such as sport, drama or documentaries.
Already being beta tested by major service providers, Vividteq is the latest product in Spectral Edge’s suite of colour filter technology for broadcasters, which can be licensed together or separately. It joins:
- Eyeteq – providing a better viewing experience for colour blind people
- Nighteq – blue light reduction technology for night time viewing
“The broadcast industry is changing fast and service providers know that they need to differentiate themselves to drive subscriber loyalty and increased revenues,” said Rhodri Thomas, CEO, Spectral Edge. “HDR offers a key opportunity to achieve this and we’re already seeing real excitement and market interest in our technology, given its ability to deliver the benefits of HDR without needing to replace existing equipment.”
Vividteq will be demonstrated on Spectral Edge’s stand (10.A42) at IBC 2017 between 15-19 September 2017.
