OSLO, Norway — Vewd (formerly Opera TV), the global market leader in enabling OTT, today announced that Kaon Media, South Korea’s leading set-top box manufacturer, has selected Vewd products for its next generation of set-top boxes. Kaon selected Vewd for two reasons: its ability to cut time-to-market significantly, from months to weeks, and out-of-the-box support for the leading OTT services pay-TV operators want to offer.
Kaon Media is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of set-top boxes, shipping their products to more than 150 operators in 90 countries. With this agreement, Kaon Media will integrate Vewd Core, the market-leading HTML5 SDK deployed on nearly 50 million devices each year, to offer their operator customers the industry’s most robust and reliable OTT solution.
“Pay-TV operators need their set-top boxes to deliver the experiences consumers demand today, whether they consume traditional broadcast content or OTT content,” said Chulmin Kim, CTO, Kaon Media. “Working with Vewd lets us bring this functionality to some of the industry’s most-deployed set-top boxes, and because we’re working with Vewd, we know that we’ll have both fast time-to-market and unparalleled support.”
Kaon selected Vewd Core along with the Media Player Module, which together will enable their set-top boxes to support leading OTT applications and interactive TV services delivered over linear streams.
“The pay TV industry is demanding more features and functionality from their set-top boxes, and Kaon Media is positioning themselves at the forefront of this change,” said Aneesh Rajaram, CEO, Vewd. “We’re honored to have our software be part of their offering, which will now open the door for over 100 pay-TV operators enjoy quality and flexibility in offering the latest in OTT services and content to their subscribers.”
