MoCA reaches 20 million node milestone

SAN RAMON, Calif. — The Multimedia over Coax Alliance (MoCA) has achieved another significant milestone with the official recognition that more than 20 million MoCA nodes have been shipped.
The total number of nodes addresses multimedia and entertainment applications only. It also further proves that the benefits of MoCA are recognized by service providers who are using it in their network, and consumers who choose it for their home entertainment systems.
To put this number in perspective, 20 million nodes is equivalent to one for every citizen in the greater New York metropolitan area.
In November of 2006, MoCA announced the shipment of its one millionth node. In a little more than two years, this number has increased 20-fold. Further evidence of the organization’s growth trajectory is that the number of nodes shipped has doubled in just the last year.
“As the MoCA standard gains acceptance, the application benefits continue to grow. This milestone reflects how widely the industry is relying on this technology,” said MoCA president, Charles Cerino.
During the recent 2009 International CES, Broadcom, Cisco Systems, D-Link, Entropic Communications, Motorola and Netgear announced products using the MoCA standard.
