nablet Releases HEVC SDK Leveraging Scalable Video Technology for High-Performance Transcoding at NAB Show

  • nablet has released its HEVC SDK at the 2019 NAB Show which builds on the Scalable Video Technology for HEVC (SVT-HEVC), an open source project contributed by Intel in September 2018, and part of the recently announced Open Visual Cloud initiative. It is designed to achieve software encoding speeds on general-purpose processors that rival those of expensive, single-purpose hardware.

LAS VEGAS — nablet, a leading provider of media processing technologies, announced today that it has released its HEVC SDK at the 2019 NAB Show. The new toolkit builds on the Scalable Video Technology for HEVC (SVT-HEVC), an open source project contributed by Intel in September 2018, and part of the recently announced Open Visual Cloud initiative. It is designed to achieve software encoding speeds on general-purpose processors that rival those of expensive, single-purpose hardware. The HEVC SDK continues nablet’s tradition of optimizing its codecs for the latest Intel processors to accelerate video transcoding.

nablet also supports the recently announced Open Visual Cloud initiative which promotes the vision of open, scalable, optimized cloud computing based on interoperable, multi-vendor solutions for visual cloud services.

“As a codec provider serving the production and broadcast markets for many years, we have to react quickly to meet changing market needs,” said Muzaffer Beygirci, CEO of nablet. “As HEVC became a standard 4K HDR delivery format, we based our new SDK on SVT-HEVC to provide our customers with a high-quality and extremely scalable solution. Our codec and optimization expertise combined with the architecturally superior implementation of SVT-HEVC enabled us to bring a world-class solution to market quickly.”

“With the introduction of the Open Visual Cloud, and the optimized media ingredients like Scalable Video Technology (SVT), nablet is helping to grow a strong ecosystem to accelerate innovation for visual cloud services,” said Lynn Comp, vice president and general manager of the Visual Cloud Division at Intel Corp.

The HEVC SDK is already helping nablet partners create mission-critical solutions. For example, Hiscale provides highly scalable transcoding solutions and services. As more and more customers need 4K + HDR with HEVC as their delivery format, the nablet HEVC Encoder is perfect for the Hiscale cloud environment. It provides CPU-powered software encoding with ultra-high speed and quality.

“In cloud environments it is often very difficult to find GPU-supported transcoding hardware. And often, such solutions won’t meet the requirements of our customers,” said Tilo Skomudek, CEO at Hiscale. “The nablet HEVC Codec gives us the high-quality Ultra HD delivery with HDR that our customers expect from us.”

nablet provides its new HEVC Codecs as a multiplatform SDK and as part of its mediaEngine live and file-based transcoder. The SDK is available for a one-time license fee of 9.900 € with an unlimited usage model. Optional yearly maintenance and support packages are also available.

nablet will be exhibiting in the Hiscale booth, SU12003, at the 2019 NAB Show in Las Vegas.
