Pirelli’s Set-Top Boxes and WebTView’s Search Technology Bring High Quality Internet Video to the TV Screen
TEL-AVIV, Israel and MILAN — WebTView, a leader in Internet-based video search and classification, and Pirelli Broadband Solutions, a leading supplier of IPTV Set Top Boxes (STB) and Customer Premises Equipment for the connected home, today announced that WebTView Platform has been selected for Pirelli’s STBs.
WebTView’s software platform specializes in automatic scanning of the Internet to build a normalized and unified Internet video catalog. This video catalog is verified in an on-going basis and is presented by Pirelli STB’s uniquely designed user interface. The platform’s mapping and transcoding capabilities enable Pirelli STBs to play any video format regardless of its original format.
“With today’s growing demand for Internet content, including TV shows and online videos generated by numerous studios, WebTView empowers consumers to easily search and watch TV-quality videos originated on the Internet from their big screen TV,” said Eli Fux, CEO and Co-founder at WebTView. “Our partnership with Pirelli will provide WebTView’s and Pirelli’s customers with the opportunity to deliver new and exciting Internet video content on their subscribers’ TV.”
“We are delighted to include WebTView’s state-of-the-art software engine as part of Pirelli’s Epicentro™ software platform for multimedia Set Top Boxes.” said Corrado Rocca, Senior Vice President, Research and Development at Pirelli Broadband Solutions. “High Quality and High Definition Internet video content normally accessed through the limited viewing experience of the PC screen, now becomes available on the TV screen through the combination of Pirelli’s hybrid multi-platform Set Top Boxes with the search and classification capabilities of the WebTVview’s engine.”
