The event attended by the offiicals in Depkominfo and their partners comprising leaders of telecommunications operators, television, and association such as APJII, Mastel, Aptel, and KPI that witnessed the launch of a new way to watch television called TELKOM IPTV.

Explained by Vice President Public and Marketing Communication Telkom, Eddy Kurnia, with the issue of the regulations of the Minister of Communications and Information No. 30/PER/ M.KOMINFO/8/2009 on Operation of IPTV service in Indonesia dated August 19, 2009, there would be no doubt for Telkom to organize the IPTV service publicly.

“Trial on this TELKOM’s IPTV service is a proof that TELKOM is always trying to give the best to the subscribers,” said Vice President Public and Marketing Communication Telkom, Eddy Kurnia. “TELKOM hopes this service will be a key option for modern community starving for information.”

As the leading telecommunications service provider in Indonesia, TELKOM always makes re-arrangement in line with the technological progress so as to meet the subscribers’ needs. One of the value added to be given to the public subscribers is the IPTV service, an interactive TV service channelled through Speedy network. “IPTV completes the Speedy as a triple play service, that is, 3 services of voice, internet and video with single connection to the subscribers,” said Eddy Kurnia.

Different with the payTV service now available, IPTV TELKOM has variety of interactive features, the watchers may choose their favourite programs and no need to worry about missing other favourite programs.

This is possible as the capability of IPTV service is to record or stop the image/picture when the program is on. Therefore, control on the television program is fully under the watchers’ responsibility (personal). Besides, the image/picture presented has much higher quality compared to the payTV now available.

Other features provided by IPTV are:

  • Electronic Program Guide (EPG), a guide to arrange progam electronically.
  • Digital Video Recording (DVR), a feature to record real time broadcast in server able to access whenever desired.
  • Time-Shift TV, a feature to stop image/picture at the time of the program on and able to continue without cutting.
  • Pay Per View.
  • Video on Demand (VoD): video broadcast service as desired by the watchers.
  • Music on Demand: music broadcast service as desired by the watchers.
  • Parental guide, a service for protecting children and teens from the program not designated for their ages.

The watchers also entertained by the game features and up next will be developed to supporting service such as: Shopping TV, a service for the watchers to order and buy desired goods at the time of watching a television program.

By the presence of this service, TELKOM gives a new sensation watching television where all users are free to determine what to watch as required.

IPTV service, according to Eddy Kurnia, could be more efficient in crisis era like today, if compared to monthly expenses for subscribing telephone, internet and TV digital separately to different operators. The subscribers do not to worry about connecting to many operators to meet communications and entertainment for the family.

According to VIVAnews, the service is due to launch in early 2010.
