Television takes on a new dimension with the first 3D TV to arrive in UK homes this April
Today sees the much anticipated 3D television revolution land on the UK high street as Samsung (Seoul: 005930) announces the sale of the first 3D televisions. Watching TV will never be the same again as viewers across the nation will have the chance to enjoy 3D programming from the comfort of their homes. Audiences will experience TV, film and sports stars leap off their TV screen and into their living rooms right before their eyes.
Market research firm Generator Research predicts a significant update of the new TV technology worldwide, projecting that by 2014 the market share for 3D sets is expected to reach over 39% and the business itself will be worth more than $117billion.
The UK’s first 3D TV is available stand alone or as a 3D package bundle, complete with a state-of-the-art Samsung 3D Blu-ray player and two pairs of Samsung Active Shutter 3D glasses which transform the picture on the television screen into dynamic crisp 3D images. The result is truly remarkable; it will feel like characters from the 3D Monsters V Aliens Blu-ray are alive in your living room whilst premiership matches will jump out of the television; as Wayne Rooney fires in the goals, you will see every angle as if you were sitting in the stadium, from the comfort of your own sofa.
Retailing from £1,799.99 the Samsung 3D LED TV line-up includes the 7000, 8000 and 9000 models with LED, LCD and Plasma screens ranging from 40″ to 65″ all featuring the latest 3D technology. The TVs, dubbed the greatest innovation in TV history, combine stylish design with performance and are expected to fly off the shelves when they go on sale nationwide from 22nd April. Available from major retailers including Best Buy, Comet, Currys, John Lewis, and major independents, the stores are currently preparing to cope with the anticipated demand.
“We are delighted to be the first to bring 3DTV to UK homes. Once you’ve seen a programme in 3D you will be hooked on the excitement and energy it brings into your home, it creates a more immersive viewing experience and with the plethora of 3D content currently being developed, it’s a great time to watch TV in a new dimension,” said Andy Griffiths, Vice President, Consumer Electronics, Samsung.
The exclusive package comes complete with a 3D version of Monsters v Aliens so customers can enjoy 3D content straight away. What is more the Samsung models are also compatible with Sky’s forthcoming 3D TV service launching later this year. Viewers will be able to enjoy the best of Sky’s 3D TV programming including movies, arts, entertainment and sport.
Film makers such as Dreamworks are also jumping on board the 3D phenomenon and installing 3D cameras into their studios, so viewers can look forward to a wide range of 3D film content available in their homes whilst an increasing number of 3D games will be available on Blu-ray later this year.
Samsung’s 3D TVs even have the ability to convert normal 2D content into 3D allowing users to view literally any content in 3D. Given the lack of 3D content currently available in the market this will allow users to enjoy their favourite movies, TV shows, sporting events and gaming in a new dimension.
The Samsung 3D LED TV range also delivers an incredible 2D performance making it the perfect TV companion, whether it’s a night in on the sofa catching the latest box office release or the family favourites on a Saturday evening.
