Russian Satellite TV Operator is Using Irdeto’s CAS and Secure Chipset For Digital Video Broadcast Offerings

MOSCOW, Russia — Irdeto (JSE: NPN), the global leader in securing and delivering premium content and digital assets, today announced that Raduga TV, a leading Russian satellite TV operator, has implemented Irdeto’s Conditional Access System (CAS) and Secure Chipset to protect its Direct To Home (DTH) Satellite Digital Video Broadcast services (DVB-S) and set top boxes (STB).

The solution, which is live across Russia, responds to the growing demands of the Russian market. J’son & Partners Consulting predict around 24 million Russian households, or 53 percent of the total population, will be receiving pay-TV services by 2014.

Rostislav Gromov, CEO of DalGeoCom which operates Raduga TV, commented: “Irdeto has helped us significantly improve quality of service for our subscribers, enabling us to offer our customers access to secure, high quality content across all our TV channels. Our partnership has also meant we have been able to address the serious and growing challenge of piracy in Russia, helping us to protect our business and ultimately its growth potential.”

Irdeto breaks the hacker model with a proactive, renewable, lifecycle approach to security. Its industry leading security technology, including hardware, software and cryptography, delivers one of the most secure and reliable solutions on the market today. Irdeto’s Secure Chipset protects Raduga TV STBs by issuing rapid software updates and using built-in mechanisms to protect smart cards against attacks, a unique anti-piracy method that is especially critical in regions, such as Russia, where piracy is prevalent.

David Canellos, senior vice president, sales and marketing at Irdeto, added; “The Russian market is experiencing exciting growth in digital pay-TV, led by consumer demand for content which is driving opportunities for content providers to expand their service offerings in the region. The business imperative for our customers is also shifting to accommodate consumer demand for choice over what information they would like to access over which platform. Irdeto is working with content providers like Raduga TV to maximize this market opportunity and protect revenue streams, enabling our customers to deliver content directly and on demand into the hands of individuals.”
