Worldwide set-top box shipment volumes to fall in 2010
Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010
According to Screen Digest, worldwide set-top box (STB) shipment volumes will fall to 180m in 2010, down from 195m in 2009. The fall is due to the reduction in sales of free-to-air DTT boxes after the conclusion of analogue switch-off in the USA. Pay TV sales are expected to rise to 123 million this year.
Total shipments are expected to decline in 2011 for both pay TV and free-to-air set-top boxes.
Screen Digest also say that Pace plc has become the number one pay TV set-top box vendor by shipment volumes, with 9.5m units sold in H1 2010. Motorola remains the number one vendor by revenue for pay TV STB shipments.
