Worldwide Shipments Demonstrate Broad Adoption by Major OEMs, Service Providers
MILPITAS, CA — Sigma Designs (NASDAQ: SIGM), a leading provider of system-on-chip (SoC) solutions for delivering entertainment and control throughout the home, today announced it has shipped more than 20 million HomePNA® chipsets worldwide. This significant milestone demonstrates that Sigma’s HomePNA solution has received broad adoption by both Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and service providers across the globe thanks to its easy installation, high performance, and cost savings.
“By dramatically reducing IPTV installation costs, HomePNA has become a must-have technology for telcos deploying triple-play services,” said Gabi Hilevitz, vice president and general manager, Home Connectivity Group for Sigma Designs. “Sigma is now perfectly positioned to offer service providers a complete, best-of-breed triple-play solution that combines HomePNA and Sigma’s industry-leading media processors.”
Sigma is the worldwide leader in IPTV over coax and phone lines. More than 70 service providers worldwide use HomePNA for IPTV distribution and broadband access. Twenty-five thousand new Sigma-enabled HomePNA devices are installed in single-family homes and Multi-Dwelling Units (MDUs) every business day. Leading OEMs and ODMs such as Motorola, Cisco, Pace, Actiontec, Alcatel/Lucent, Comtrend, Sercomm, Cameo, and ZyXEL use Sigma’s HomePNA solutions in their product offerings.
“This milestone is a testament to the vibrancy and growth of the HomePNA ecosystem,” said Michael Weissman, president of the HomePNA Alliance. “HomePNA customers continue to benefit from the highest performance and the lowest install cost when deploying IPTV over coax and phoneline.”
Telcos, satellite companies, MSOs, and power utility companies deploy Sigma HomePNA solutions across five continents, worldwide. With telcos like AT&T, Bell Canada, CenturyLink, and Telus, Sigma products are used to cut IPTV install times in half. Sigma’s HomePNA solution also provides telcos increased bandwidth to offer customers IPTV and whole-home DVR applications. Satellite companies like YES deploy HomePNA solutions to bring cost-effective VoD to their customers. In the power utility sector, companies including Chattanoga EPB and Lafayette Utility Services use Sigma HomePNA chipsets to add triple-play services.
HomePNA offers high bandwidth, guaranteed QoS, remote management, and diagnostic capabilities that facilitate the installation and maintenance of the home entertainment network. This enables service providers to deploy reliable cutting-edge services, like triple-play, while minimizing operation expenditures. HomePNA is a flexible solution capable of servicing MDUs, hotels, single-family homes, and large and small network operators.
“HomePNA has proven to be a reliable, easy-to-install and use solution for OEMs and service providers who deliver IP services worldwide,” said Kurt Scherf, vice president and principal analyst at Parks Associates. “By shipping 20 million chipsets, Sigma has proven the global strength of HomePNA.”
