CEA Invites Industry to Join January Meeting of CEA-2014 Certification Consortium

ARLINGTON, Va. — The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)® seeks participation in a Certification Consortium to further market acceptance, interoperability and education surrounding use of the CEA-2014 standard. The kickoff meeting, at which CEA will outline the framework for the Certification Consortium, will take place via Web conference on Monday, January 24, 2011.

CEA-2014: Web-based Protocol and Framework for Remote User Interface on UPnP Networks and the Internet (Web4CE) defines the necessary mechanisms to allow a user interface to be displayed remotely on and controlled by devices or control points other than the one hosting the logic. The basic device operations are based on the UPnP Device Architecture for UPnP networks and UPnP devices in the home. The standard also allows the remote display of user interfaces provided by third-party Internet services on devices in the home, and covers a wide range of UI capabilities for TVs, mobile phones and portable devices.

“The objective of the CEA-2014 Certification Consortium is to provide a platform for developers, adopters and implementers of the CEA-2014 standard to come together to define, fund and implement a certification program,” said Deepak Joseph, CEA director of Technology and Standards.

Participation in the kickoff meeting is open to any company, organization or individual with direct and material interest. CEA invites specific ideas related to the CEA-2014 Certification Consortium. Any company interested in participating, or looking for more information, should contact Deepak Joseph at djoseph@CE.org or 703-907-7466 by Thursday, January 20, 2011.
