VCAS for DVB Consumer and Professional CAMs Now Available as Part of Next-generation Conditional Access System

SAN DIEGO and SHENZHEN, China — Verimatrix, the specialist in securing and enhancing revenue for multi-screen digital TV services around the globe, has certified the SMiT conditional access module (CAM) for use in VCAS for DVB secured networks targeting broadcast consumer devices and professional receivers. Shenzhen State Micro Technology Co., Ltd (SMiT), a leading global designer and provider of CAM devices, is now offering the SMiT ViewRight DVB CAM in a professional version, targeting integrated receiver decoders (IRD) used for B2B and bulk descrambling applications, and in a low cost consumer format that is used in conjunction with set-top boxes (STBs) and integrated digital TVs that offer one or more DVB CI expansion slots.

The Verimatrix/SMiT CAM products are fully integrated, robust implementations of the ViewRight DVB security client used in conjunction with the Verimatrix Video Content Authority System (VCAS™) for DVB one-way solution. VCAS for DVB offers a choice between removable hardware security and software-based clients to meet operator requirements for flexibility and renewability. The ViewRight DVB CAM offers a new client option that enables integrated TV devices and other consumer electronics products with DVB CI support.

“Partnering with Verimatrix helps us complete the list of top-tier conditional access providers we are working with in order to provide flexible video security in an easy to deploy format,” said Stephen He, vice president of SMiT. “This initial certification of the ViewRight DVB CAM from Verimatrix is just the start of a range of added value security products we are jointly developing.”

VCAS for DVB enables digital TV operators to combine standards-based Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) technology for broadcast distribution with the interactivity of IP-based networks using a single robust security solution. It is a modular solution supporting multiple network topologies from a single head-end: cable, satellite and terrestrial broadcast networks without a return channel, hybrid networks with IP return channel supporting higher value subscribers with interactive capabilities and video-on-demand (VOD), as well as combinations of broadcast and hybrid networks.

“Offering ViewRight DVB CAM devices in conjunction with industry leader SMiT enables an important piece of our overall value proposition, helping operators transition to more modern revenue security solutions,” said Petr Peterka, CTO, Verimatrix. “The partnership helps us immediately with major deployments, and promises to enable a range of advanced digital TV business models in the future.”
