India ends 2010 with 32 million DTH subscribers

“Indian Telecom Services Performance Indicator Report” for the Quarter ending December 2010
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) today released the “Indian Telecom Services Performance Indicator Report” for the Quarter ending December 2010. This Report provides a broad perspective of the Telecom Services and presents the key parameters and growth trends for the Telecom Services as well as Cable TV, DTH & Radio Broadcasting services in India for the period covering October to December 2010, and is compiled on the basis of information furnished by the Service Providers.
Executive Summary
Besides the free DTH service of Doordarshan, there are 6 private DTH licensees (Tata Sky, Dish TV India, SUN Direct TV, Bharti Telemedia, Reliance Big TV, Bharat Business Channel), offering their services to DTH subscribers. As on 31.12.2010, their reported subscriber base is 32.05 million.
Number of Set Top Boxes (STBs) installed in CAS notified areas of Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai increased from 775,876 in Sep-10 to 786,422 in Dec-10.
