VCAS for DASH Helps OTT Operators Seamlessly Transition from Current Adaptive Rate Streaming Formats to DASH Standard Services of the Future

AMSTERDAM — IBC 2012 — Verimatrix, the specialist in securing and enhancing revenue for multi-screen digital TV services around the globe, today unveiled Verimatrix VCAS™ for DASH, the world’s first commercial-grade MPEG-DASH secure delivery solution. Extending the Verimatrix range of over-the-top (OTT) solutions helps open up the universe of multi-network, multi-screen delivery to DASH standard compliant smart devices, helping accelerate the growth of new services and revenue streams for multi-network operators.

Verimatrix will be demonstrating VCAS for DASH in collaboration with ecosystem partners Envivio and NXP Software at IBC 2012, highlighting the benefits of a broadly supported rights management delivery architecture. The end-to-end delivery demonstration will illustrate DASH encoding and ISO standard encryption using the Envivio Muse Encoder, Envivio Halo Network Media Processor and NXP Software’s LifeVibes QuickPlayer. “Verimatrix is offering a solution that enables operators to leverage the flexibility and power of the Halo Network Media Processor to quickly extend its range of supported devices and deliver secure streaming services in DASH format,” said Boris Felts, vice president, product marketing, Envivio. “With the new options that MPEG-DASH makes available and its growing market adoption, we anticipate that robust DASH support will become a competitive differentiator for multi-network operators. We are delighted to have collaborated with Verimatrix on this important project.”

“Verimatrix VCAS for DASH enables a rapid deployment of new standards-based services protected by a trusted brand,” said Peter Van de Berg, director of marketing and sales, NXP Software. “We are excited to contribute the living room experience and extensive device coverage of QuickPlayer as part of this project that is fueling the premium multi-screen services of the future.”

Verimatrix VCAS for DASH is a component within the Video Content Authority System and extends the range of services and device types that can be supported in this harmonized rights management platform. Leveraging a proven authentication and entitlement architecture, VCAS for DASH is also compliant with the ISO/IEC Common Encryption (CENC) standard. The VCAS architecture also currently supports unique security enhancements to the HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) protocol via its widely integrated ViewRight® Web components, as well as PlayReady-protected Smooth Streaming, under a VCAS harmonized rights management umbrella that enables the maximum device footprint for pay-TV streaming services, including iOS, Android, PC, Mac, set top boxes (STBs), smart TVs, gaming consoles, etc.

The VCAS architecture can now demonstrate an effective upgrade path from today’s de-facto adaptive rate streaming systems to support of new DASH compliant delivery, while avoiding costly integration changes in both head-end and client-side components.

“Verimatrix VCAS for DASH is based on proven technology and proven partnerships to help rapidly enable a whole new generation of premium services to be brought to market,” said Steve Oetegenn, chief sales and marketing officer, Verimatrix. “We are excited to be at the forefront of the DASH revolution, and look forward to helping operators expand their service offerings and enhance their revenue streams.”
