Platform Provides High Performance Analog and Digital TV Reception for China’s Terrestrial TV Market

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Xceive Corporation, the market leader in hybrid silicon tuners with proven success in television, personal computers (PCs) and the digital home, and Legend Silicon Corp., a fabless semiconductor company that develops technology and semiconductor chips for digital terrestrial television broadcasting (DTTB) reception, have unveiled the industry’s first hybrid front-end silicon tuner based platforms customized for China’s DTTB market.

The market-ready reference designs will be demonstrated at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2008 in Xceive’s suite at the Hilton and at Legend Silicon’s booth #74344 at the Sands Expo Center.

Legend Silicon’s LGS-8G42 and LGS-8GL5 are the second generation of digital demodulators that fully comply with China’s DTTB standard (GB20600-2006). The hybrid platform design combines Xceive’s XC5000, the world’s most highly integrated two-in-one analog/digital silicon tuner in a mere 7mm by 7mm package size, and Legend’s LGS-8G42 aimed at the integrated digital TV (iDTV) and set top box (STB) market. The XC5000 is also combined with the LGS-8GL5 to enable portable and mobile applications. With unmatched performance, unique features and an ultra small footprint, the XC5000 is the ideal solution for digital TV sets and PC TV applications.

“The XC5000 is the best hybrid silicon tuner for high-definition television (HDTV) and portable applications,” said Ben Runyan, vice president of marketing for Legend Silicon. “Offering lower power consumption, smaller form factor and higher integration than the leading network interface modules (NIMs), Xceive is a great partner for providing our customers with high performance GB20600-2006 standard-based front-end hybrid solutions for analog and digital television reception.”

The reference designs are currently being used by customers and semiconductor integrated circuit (IC) partners that expect to launch digital TV sets and USB TV products in early 2008. Starting with CCTV, which launched free-to-air terrestrial standard and high definition channels in Beijing on January 1, 2008, the major cities across China will begin terrestrial digital program broadcasting before the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. These DTV solutions will be well positioned to receive DTTB programs. The joint collaboration efforts between Xceive and Legend Silicon provides TV manufacturers with a new platform to help address the emerging Chinese market’s demand for high performance solutions for stationary and portable applications that support both the analog and digital TV reception required by China’s DTTB standard.

“The collaboration with Legend Silicon clearly demonstrates that the XC5000 is applicable not only to all current worldwide analog and digital TV standards but also highly advanced emerging standards such as China’s GB20600-2006,” said Neil Mitchell, vice-president of marketing for Xceive. “The collaboration between Xceive and Legend Silicon will provide customers a time-to-market advantage with the best performance for front-end designs.”

Xceive and Legend Silicon have completed the reference-design hardware, which has been available since December 2007. Interested parties can contact either company about the availability of the new hardware solutions.
