Algar Telecom to offer IPTV in Brazil in 2H 2013
Friday, March 8th, 2013Brazilian telecommunications service provider, Algar Telecom, has been running an IPTV trial with three of the ISPs (Bitcom, in Caxias do Sul; ISuper in Maringá and Gigalink in Nova Friburgo) that use its network via distribution partner WDC Networks. The trial is due to finish at the end of March.
As “everything is going well”, according to Algar’s CEO, Divino Sebastião de Souza, the company expects to launch a full commercial service, to be called ISP TV, in the second half of this year.
WDC Networks supports around 3000 ISPs. 450 have expressed an interest in adding the TV service, giving a potential market of up to 3 million users.
