Verimatrix Enhances Revenue Security for TVB.COM’s Subscription-Based VOD Service

  • Hong Kong’s Top New Media Service Provider Chooses VCAS for Internet TV for Extended HLS Security Capabilities, Robust Customer Support and Ease of Integration

SAN DIEGO, CA — Verimatrix, the specialist in securing and enhancing revenue for multi-network, multi-screen digital TV services around the globe, today announced that TVB.COM, a member of Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB), has selected the Verimatrix Video Content Authority System (VCAS™) architecture to provide revenue security for its subscription-based VOD Service. TVB is Hong Kong’s largest independent television broadcaster and the world’s largest Chinese language television program provider.

TVB.COM launched a new subscription VOD service named “GOTV” on web and mobile platforms in January 2014. It allows users to enjoy more than 10,000 episodes of TVB’s precious and memorable drama series in the past 46 years on the web and through their mobile devices. The content is delivered to subscribers via Apple® iPad™, iPhone™ and Android™ devices over an unmanaged network featuring the HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) protocol. HLS requires extended security via specific pay-TV security techniques in order to qualify for licensing of premium content and to adequately protect pay-TV services being delivered to multiple screens.

“TVB.COM is committed to providing its subscribers with access to the content they crave with the best user experience,” said Kenneth Wong, chief operating officer, TVB.COM Limited. “In order to protect TVB’s valuable video assets, it was imperative that we have a robust security strategy in place. Verimatrix offers us the technology, support and expertise we need to protect and optimize our service offering with premium content.”

VCAS for Internet TV provides a complete digital TV security solution for OTT services over multiple networks. Featuring enhanced HLS security, VCAS for Internet TV secures pay-OTT services to multiple screens and across multiple network types, including both broadcast (linear) and VoD delivery modes. Specifically, VCAS for Internet TV provides pay-TV security features otherwise only found in managed DVB and IPTV networks, thus enabling the use of premium content for OTT services.

“Asian operators are rapidly adopting business models featuring pay OTT video services,” said Steve Oetegenn, chief sales and marketing officer, Verimatrix. “Verimatrix stands ready to help these operators implement a comprehensive revenue security strategy that is robust enough to protect premium content, yet flexible enough to support the addition of new devices, services and features in the future.”
